Characteristics

The Novo-Andreyevsky Bridge is a pedestrian crossing spanning the Smolenka River to connect Vassilievsky Island to Dekabristov Island. It is a 34.8-meter-long and 3.28-meter-wide single-span metal bridge.

History

The first crossing at this location was built by a private citizen in 1966–1969. A footbridge was necessary to shorten the way from a new residential community to the transport ring on the left bank of the Smolenka River. The construction was promoted by an engineer of the Baltic Plant Igor Andreyev. The bridge was basically made of a decommissioned crane which Andreyev bought at the plant with donations collected from residents of the community.

In the summer of 2005, the bridge was dismantled and a new one was built in 2009. The work was completed by Trest Lenmostostroy CJSC. The new crossing officially named “Novo-Andreyevsky” was inaugurated on December 17, 2009.
